Two talented Year 10 students have recently been successful in two national creative writing competitions.
Lillian Cooper and Robyn Chambers have demonstrated considerable ability to succeed against thousands of entries across the country in two different competitions, the Young Writers SOS Sagas Competition and the Through Their Eyes: Immersed In Words Competition. Robyn wrote a short story entitled ‘Trapped’ and Lilian wrote a poem entitled ‘Sweet and Salty’.
The Head of the English Faculty at Barlby High School, Mrs Wright, said “Both Robyn and Lillian have always been talented writers, creating beautiful poetry and prose in the classroom and out. They have both been finalists in a fiercely competitive spoken word competition in recent years, but this the girls did completely independently. Lockdown was a challenging time for everyone but we are so proud that our students found an outlet in creative writing. They have such bright futures, and I can’t wait to see their names in print.”
Both students’ work will be published in respective anthologies over Christmas.
