HE and Oxbridge Webinars

Oxford and Cambridge Universities (Oxbridge) are offering a programme of Year 10-12 webinars organised by St Catharine’s Cambridge and Brasenose Oxford.

Although the sessions are delivered by the two universities, they are not limited to just those who might consider Oxbridge. As one of the St Catharine’s College link area schools, Barlby High School has priority access to booking places on the webinars.

There are two streams:

• Year 10 & 11 Webinar Series which includes: introductions to university, student finance, and Oxbridge; a variety of academic taster lectures and Q&As; post-16 subject choice guidance, mental wellbeing support.
• Year 12 Webinar Series which follows on from our January ‘Introducing Oxbridge’ session – recording is available below:

The series offers: advice on subject exploration outside the classroom and making strong applications to competitive universities; academic taster lectures and Q&As; guidance on making university decisions during the pandemic and looking after mental health; personal statement workshops; in-depth Q&A with Admissions Tutors; Open Days events throughout the summer; interview workshops.

Year 10 & 11: Introduction to University and Oxbridge with Q&A, Thursday 18 March, 6-7pm:

Oxbridge admissions staff will be introducing some key ideas about Higher Education (degree education) and offering tips on how to research university and course options. We will outline life and learning at Oxford and Cambridge, breaking down some common myths. Current Oxbridge students will be chipping in with their experiences transitioning from school to university and overcoming any worries they had in Year 10 or 11. Booking will open to all UK state schools on Thursday 11 March.

Subject Exploration Webinar with Q&A, Fri 26^th March, 6-7pm:

We hear of super-curricular research all the time – and that it can help students gain a fascination for a subject and bolster university applications. But what exactly is a super-curricular activity and how is it done? Find out more in this session by Oxbridge staff which covers where to find inspiration at home, at school, and, once pandemic restrictions are loosened, at museums, art galleries and elsewhere. We will also cover thinking critically and building up intellectual ideas and arguments. Booking will open to all UK state schools on Monday 15 March.

Safeguarding: As with the majority of our webinars, these will take place using Zoom’s webinar function so students won’t be able to enable their camera or microphone.
