Barlby writers celebrate 100 years of the female vote

Last month, some of our talented students showcased their writing skills yet again at a celebration evening at Barlby Library and Community Hub.

The English department ran the third annual writing competition and were met with no less than the best in effort and achievement. Students were asked to create entries to commemorate 100 years since women began to achieve the vote. Students were asked to create either a diary entry, poem or scripted performance to celebrate the achievement of the female suffrage movement.

Students’ writing was wonderfully expressive and mature and fully worthy of such an important issue. Winners received certificates and prizes and the overall winner, Amelia Lacey, won a £25 voucher. Mrs Wright was incredibly proud of their efforts and thanks all parents and carers for supporting our students.

Mick Haining and Richard Wailing, volunteers at the library, judged and gave feedback and encouraged our students in the very best way; we are eternally grateful for their help and support.

Well done to all students involved!
